• The American Civil War Homepage - Established by the University of Tennessee, this site contains a tremendous amount of information on the Civil War, including sections on specific battles, timelines and regimental histories. 
• The Civil War for Kids - Written and designed by elementary students from New York, this site is great for the younger searcher who needs basic information on the Civil War.
• Outline of the Civil War from Great American History - This very well organized and easy to use site contains an outline of the Civil War with links such as Causes of the War, Naval Battles and Reconstruction.
• Poetry and Music of the War Between the States - Civil War poetry and music indexed by title, author or first line.

BATTLES/FLAGS

• Civil War Battles by State - The National Park Service list of battles by state. An unbelievable amount of information found here. Each battle has a brief summary, result, location, principal commanders and casualties.
• The American Civil War Naval War - This page is designed to provide the reader with brief insight into a little known aspect of the Civil War, The Naval War. Here you will see pictures of famous and not so famous ships. Find out who battled who.

CAUSES

• Causes of the Civil War - This site collects copies or links to many primary documents during the period of secession crisis of the Civil War. (Including resolutions and party platforms.)
• Declaration of Causes of Secession - Want to know why the Civil War began? See the Declarations of Causes of Seceding by Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina and Texas.

• Selected Civil War Photographs - If you need pictures of the Civil War than this is the place to be.  The Library of Congress places more than 1,000 photographs on a chronological timeline.

• Abraham Lincoln Online - This is an extensive resource guide to Abraham Lincoln sites on the Internet. It includes Lincoln This Week, Lincoln Quiz, Speeches/Writings, Historical Places, Lincoln Resources, Mailbag plus an index to links.
• Civil War Women - This site from Duke University's Special Collections Library includes letters, photographs and full-text diaries of Civil War-era women.
• The History Place presents Abraham Lincoln - The life and times of Abraham Lincoln. Read the Gettysburg Address, look at Civil War photographs and learn more about the 16th president.
• John Brown Homepage - Biographical information and full photo of John Brown. (Including newspaper articles.)
• Mr. Lincoln's Virtual Library - Mr. Lincoln's Virtual Library Preview offers selections from two collections at the Library of Congress that accents the life of Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865), the sixteenth President of the United States. (Includes the Emancipation Proclamation and many graphics of the Civil War.)
• People of the Civil War - Learn about such people as John Brown, Rose O'Neil Greenhow and more.

• Ulysses S. Grant Association - This association collects copies of Grant documents and analyzes his life and career based on documentary evidence.

• Confederate Regimental Histories Directory - The Directory of Confederate Army Regimental Histories lists the artillery, cavalry and infantry by state.
• Union Army Regimental Histories - The Directory of Union Army Regimental Histories lists the infantry, cavalry and artillery by state.

SLAVERY

• Ben’s Guide – Emancipation Proclamation - Find a nice, easy to follow explanation of the Emancipation Proclamation, with a map indicating which states are affected by the document.
• Our Shared History, African American Heritage : Underground Railroad - The National Park Services Dept. offers information on Underground Railroad sites.
• The Underground Railroad - At this interactive site from National Geographic, students simulate being slaves and must make several difficult decisions, like when to escape and which way to run to find a safe house.
• The Underground Railroad - This PBS site includes pictures, text and teacher resources.

SURRENDER/RECONSTRUCTION

• The History Place - Abraham Lincoln (Proclamation of Amnesty) - View the Proclamation of Amnesty and Reconstruction written by Abraham Lincoln.
• Life After the 13th Amendment - The ratification of the 13th Amendment in December 1865 brought freedom to the slaves, but took many years for blacks to achieve equality in America.
