GENERAL ANIMALS

  • Animal Doc - Engaging site from the University of Georgia that explores the role of the veterinarian, how they operate on horses, animal behavior and other fun facts about animals.

  • Crittercam Chronicles - Explore animals living in Antarctic, the Artic and the deep sea via “crittercams” and observe habitats from the animals’ point of view.

  • Encyclopedia of Animals - Find encyclopedia articles on many different animals some with pictures. Select Searchasaurus then click on Encyclopedia of Animals.
  • Sea World/Busch Gardens - Animal information database.
  • Animal Diversity Web - Pictures and information about animals. This site is geared for 5th grade and up.
  • Animal Picture Archive - The site includes thousands of photographs of animals as well as sound files and video clips. 
  • Defenders of Wildlife - Kids' Planet - Click on "Get the Facts" for information on different wild animals. Also, play Wild Games to learn more about animals and the environment!

HABITATS

  • Hands-On Habitat - Younger students take a virtual tour of prairie and wetland habitats in this  basic introduction to animal habitats. Resources are available for parents and teachers and the site is maintained by the Chicago Academy of Science’s Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum.
  • Kidsport Reference Library : Science : Animal Homes - This site introduces students to the diverse physical habitations that animals make their homes in and includes Tree Homes, Nests, Hives, Barns, Water Homes and Houses. In each section homes are described and which animals may use these habitats with a brief description of their adaptation.
  • Smithsonian National Zoological Park/Friends of the National Zoo - Part of the Smithsonian Institution the National Zoo has created a web site that invites its viewers to visit and explore an array of animal species and the habitats in which they make their homes.

  • Electronic Zoo - Great place to start your search for animal information on the Web.
  • Lincoln Park Zoo - An excellent site for help with report writing, these pages offer a wealth of information on zoo inhabitants.
