COMPUTER SERVICES

Computer Services provides SCLS and member libraries with ongoing computer support, development and consulting services to promote increased productivity through computer technologies. The department addresses such issues as hardware and software purchase recommendations, basic and advanced computer training, deployment of networking and telecommunications structures, and ongoing service development. Each issue addresses the work needed to increase the access and delivery of library services in a changing technological environment.

Consulting Services include hardware and software selection for individual libraries and groups of libraries for library-specific applications such as acquisitions, public access catalogs, and Internet accessible databases.

Technical assistance in promoting state-of-the-art-library technology, PC applications, local area networking, and Internet access.

Continuing Education includes regular microcomputer and Windows NT user group meetings, special workshops on computer technology and library applications for the beginner and experienced user.

Technical Support is provided seven days a week to member libraries for troubleshooting telecommunications, SuffolkNet and PALS services.

Other services include technical assistance in the evaluation of automation vendor proposals for networked and integrated library automation services.
