Dear : I am writing to you as a library supporter on behalf of our county’s public libraries and library system. Once again this year the Governor’s budget targets libraries by recommending a 5% cut in state aid, even while proposing modest increases for aid to our schools. It is understandable that many of the important programs our libraries offer to your constituents are threatened when you consider that libraries have been consistently left behind in the state budget. Last year the restoration of full library funding received the greatest support of any Legislative budget override. We need your help again. I recognize that these are difficult times and everyone must share the burden, but the fact is that libraries, which make up less than one-tenth of one percent of the state budget, are singled out year after year. Fair is fair. Libraries are an essential educational institution. If cuts must be made then they should be equitable. You have been elected to serve our residents. Libraries are an important part of our communities and our society. Few institutions serve so many different people in so many ways. They deserve your support. Please fight for them. Yours truly,
