Pon Quogue Bridge, Hampton Bays. The next morning the Gilbert family walked east to this bridge, which was half gone, but they managed to get across it and into the village of Hampton Bays.

They began walking back to Quogue and were given a lift by someone, finally arriving back in Quogue, very bedraggled but safe.

Their friends couldn't believe they had survived, and said, "They are digging for your bodies in the sand back at your house!"
