The Henry Perkins Hotel, Riverhead, as it looked in 1934. meanwhile, my parents had fled the storm surge with their family to Henry Perkins Hotel in Riverhead. As they came through the lobby, the other hotel residents sat reading their evening papers by candlelight. The headlines screamed "Hitler Marches into Sudetenland". It didn't seem to mean anything to my parents; they were so frantic with worry as to my safety. After getting their family settled, they went back to Westhampton Beach to search. |
